Dear All, Following the unfortunate events at Jaipur Art Summit on 21 Novemebr 2015, Shilpagram, Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur during which two artists Anish Ahluwalia and Chintan Upadhyay were harassed, roughed up and detained by the Rajasthan police for over three hours at Bajaj Nagar thana, Jaipur based on an alleged complaint about Siddhartha Kararwal's art work, Smt. Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan has said she was saddened by the incident.

Police Commissioner of Jaipur has apologized for the actions of Mr. Mahendra Gupta SHO, Bajaj Nagar Police Station and other police personnel involved in violent treatment of the artists. The Police Commissioner has said the SHO and other concerned personnel have been removed as part of action against them.

We believe this action of Rajasthan government is a step in the right direction. We hope it will send a message to the police personnel that they cannot get away with intimidating, and treating citizens violently.

However trauma suffered by artists who faced or witnessed brutal behavior of the Jaipur police remains. Siddharth Kararwal’s art work that became the target of police action and which was dismantled and removed was made with intent and passion. Unfortunately its loss can not be compensated.
